Dill Mill Gayye, Miley Jab Hum Tum, Remix: Television shows that defined every 90’s kid’s teenage years
Television was a huge medium back then (with good content and not just the protagonist turning into a fly). Listed below are the 5 shows that defined breezy romance and had us hooked to TV
Let us all agree to the fact that there has never been a phase as memorable and eventful as our teenage years. It was raw, unfiltered and explorative. It was the first time that we were introduced to the concept of love, of being ambitious, friendship goals, sacrifices and compromises and how to have each others back at all times. All of this was portrayed through TV shows as television was a huge medium back then (with good content and not just the protagonist turning into a fly). Listed below are the 5 shows that defined breezy romance and had us hooked to TV.
Dill Mill Gayye

Let us all accept the fact that Dill Mill Gayye was a rage that had swept all of us away and charmed us with its magic. Armaan and Riddhima (Karan Singh Grover and Shilpa Anand, later Jennifer Winget) were #CoupleGoals much before it became famous. Be it the funny banter set amidst the hospital backdrop, the ever changing Riddhimas or “Asmani rang ho”, it still manages to bring a huge smile on our face and fills our heart with a gush of emotions. Also, we believe that all of us are guilty of still watching that show on loop even after forever. #DMGAlways
Miley Jab Hum Tum

This college romance was a favourite amongst the youth. It had all the perfect elements which got the crowd hooked to the television screens. Be it the Morena sister duo - Gunjan and Nupur Bhushan (Sanaya Irani and Rati Pandey), the hearthrob and college stud Samrat or the handsome and nerdy Mayank (Arjun Bijlani), this one made for a super good looking cast. Its this very show where Sanaya and Mohit fell in love with each other and are now happily married. Miley Jab Hum Tum, quite literally!!
Left Right Left

Aired on Sab TV, Left Right Left had all of us charmed. The concept was new to Indian television and because of its youth appeal it majorly attracted the young hearts. The Kanchanjunga Military Academy instantly became the place all us wanted to be at, especially when Captain Rajveer (Rajeev Khandelwal) was one of your faculties. The fun and intense chemistry between Naina (Priyanka Bassi) and Huda (Vikas Manaktala) was another major highlight of the show. The show was a debut platform for Arjun Bijlani. Harshad Chopra, Kunal Karan Kapoor, Gazal Rai and Shweta Salve.
Remix

Remix was a wave of addiction. Almost every teenager sweared by this show. It was a remake of Argentina’s hit soap, Rebelde Way. Tia (Shweta Gulati), Anvesha (Priya Wal), Yuvraaj (Raj Singh Arora), Ranveer (Karan Wahi) comprised of the leading cast. It was fun, peppy and breathed life. No wonder everyone’s still hooked on this show even after ages.
Hip Hip Hurray

A television show that’s loved by most of the 80s and 90s peeps, it revolved around the lives of the 12 standard kids, their adventures, hopes, dreams, relationships and friendship. It was a hug ensemble with stars like Purab Kohli, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Kishwer Merchant, Milind Soman to name a few.
Indian television has come a long way ever since but these shows defined and moulded our childhood and teenage years. They in a way taught us the meaning of love, friendship, compromise and bonds. If there’s ever a reunion, we hope it’s of these shows. Comment and let us know which one was your favourite.
