You are bound to feel stressed due to work, relationships, financial issues, even health problems, etc. There are a number of things that cause stress and affect your mental health. For some of them, it is easy to understand the symptoms of stress; however, for others, it is sometimes difficult to recognize the symptoms of stress. Chronic and repetitive stress leads to physical problems. There are 8 physical signs that indicate you are too stressed.

Neck and back pain

Muscle tension is one of the first signs of stress. It is most common at the base of your head. That's why your masseuse may ask if you've been stressed lately when your neck and shoulders pain. The neck and shoulders will feel harder than ever due to the stress on the brain. This is because your body produces hormones that increase tension and sensitivity to pain.

Hair loss

Stress hormones can interfere with your hair growth eventually causing balding. So, if you don’t want to get bald anytime soon, then you better start looking after your health. Stress can also intensify dandruff on your scalp. Just one stressful situation will not make your hair fall out. But experiencing a life-altering situation or repetitive occurrences of stressful situations can cause you hair to stop from growing temporarily.

Weight gain / weight loss

Chronic stress can take a toll on your health by affecting your weight. Some people tend to binge eat due to the hormones that affect the body while they are stressed. This results in weight gain over a period of time. On the other hand, loss of appetite is a common occurrence as well which in turn reduces your weight.

Insomnia

Overthinking at times leads to stress. When you're feeling super worried and are having a tough time shutting down your mind, chances are you'll also have issues falling asleep at night.

Irregular menstrual cycle

Too much stress can interfere with sex hormones in the body. Extreme stress can prevent your body to ovulate which means you won’t meet your Aunt Flo every month. This shouldn’t happen in normal levels of stress. This is only seen in high levels of chronic stress.

Acne

The adrenaline that rushes through your body when you’re tense releases oils that cause acne. One or two acne spots do not matter, but chronic stress can make your skin prone to lot more problems.

Headache and fatigue

If you are not sleeping well and are walking around exhausted, this can lead to stress on your brain that leads to headaches. Plus, when your body feels overwhelmed and is working overtime to handle the stressors it registers, it takes a lot out of you. Fatigue can make you feel tired all the time.
