5 ways to communicate better with your partner for a healthy relationship
Surely you’ve heard the line, ‘Communication is the key to any relationship’. Believe it or not, this is a very important part of any relationship.
One of the major reasons why you tend to fight with your better half is because of lack of communication. You must make healthy communication a necessity. Not only must you be a good listener but also a good communicator in your relationship. It is easy for people to tell you to communicate in a better way with your partner but it’s hard to practice it in real. Therefore you must put this into practice step by step and eventually master it.
Here are some ways which can help you communicate with your partner in a better way.
It is a human tendency to read minds and assume what our mind wants to. This leads to many problems and wrong assumptions. You might not know what the other person is actually thinking but your mind assumes something which might not be true. For instance, if you see your partner not in his/her original behavior or if you’re not sure what your partner is feeling, do not make try to read your partner’s mind. Instead ask away. Be open and honest to each other.
Express your feelings in a healthy way.

A conversation is when two people talk. It is a two-way street. Do not make it about yourself. Ask your partner about their feelings and thoughts. Make your partner more involved in the conversation so both of you enjoy. It is important for both people in a relationship to share what they feel and what’s on their mind. Make sure you do not dominate the conversation. A healthy conversation is about both the people and should flow naturally back and forth.
Amidst your busy work life, it is important to set aside time for your partner. Neglecting your partner all the time for work issues may be unhealthy for your relationship. But it is equally important for both of you to respect and understand each other’s work. Everyone wants to be heard and express their feelings. Depending upon your work schedule, you must give some time to your partner. If you are having a hectic day at work, make sure to give at least 15 mins. Do not leave your partner unheard or uninformed. This will help you avoid larger conflicts.

Along with verbal communication, it is important to understand the non-verbal signs your partner makes while communicating. This helps you in understanding what your partner feels in a better way. Body language, tone of your voice, eye contact and the distance between you two when you talk are all non-verbal signs. Knowing your partner’s verbal signs may take time and patience but it’ll surely make your conversation healthy. For instance, if your partner is not making eye contact when you talk; it indicates that your partner is not interested in what you’re saying or is ashamed of something.
Expressing what you feel is again very important. Your partner may find it easier to help you if he/she knows what you need. If you are experiencing something and need advice, let your partner know. Do not wait for your partner to give you advice because your partner might not know what you are experiencing and might decide to give you space. By letting your partner know what you need, you might avoid any future disagreements. Let your partner know what you exactly need in that moment.
