Did you know noise can impact our health significantly? As per the latest study published in the PLOS One journal, if you are living or have a job in noise prone area or have a chronic noise exposure then you are susceptible to hypertension. While noisy jobs can lead to hearing difficulties, the current study revealed that louder work conditions can lead to other health issues as well. As per the research, noise can lead to high blood pressure and other health issues such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure and arrhythmia among others. The same also negatively impacts the digestive system. As per the reports, more than 600 million people have jobs that expose them to dangerous noise levels.
The authors said, "Several studies [have] reported that bilateral high-frequency hearing loss (BHFHL) is associated with cumulative occupational noise exposure, and BHFHL can serve as an early biomarker for the actual personal exposure to occupational noise." The authors added, "The present study suggested that occupational noise exposure was positively associated with blood pressure levels and hypertension risk." Speaking of the study, the researchers studied data of 21,403 workers who had occupational noise exposure. This information was from a survey of workers in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in China. They found that workers who had mild and high Bilateral High-Frequency Hearing Loss (BHFHL) had an increased hypertension risk of 34% and 281% respectively.
