Health Benefits of Brewer’s Yeast: Find out how this inactive yeast can keep you HEALTHY

Brewer's yeast, also known as baker’s yeast or medicinal yeast, is a type of yeast that is the byproduct from brewing beer. Brewer’s yeast is used in alternative medicine to promote digestive health. It is also believed to treat a number of health conditions such as colds, flu, diarrhea, and diabetes. Brewer's yeast should not be confused with the active dry yeast used for baking. Unlike active yeast, the cells in brewer's yeast are non-living and cannot be reactivated. Brewer's yeast is dried, deactivated cells of the fungus Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is a rich source of B-complex vitamins, protein, and minerals, and a biologically active form of chromium known as glucose tolerance factor. This makes brewer's yeast a natural nutritional supplement. Brewer’s yeast may also treat hay fever, and chronic disorders such as diabetes and high cholesterol!

1. Can help manage diabetes

Glucose tolerance factor (GTC) can be found in brewer's yeast. This has been shown to enhance the body’s insulin response. It does so by binding to insulin and increasing its absorption in blood vessels. This can prove especially beneficial to those who have type 2 diabetes.

2. Can treat high cholesterol

Taking brewer's yeast by mouth for 8 weeks may decrease blood levels of total cholesterol and increases levels of good cholesterol in people with high cholesterol. The chromium in brewer’s yeast is responsible for treating high cholesterol.

3. Can reduce irritable bowel syndrome

Brewer's yeast may come in handy for treating irritable bowel syndrome. It can also provide relief from abdominal pain, gas, diarrhea, and constipation.

4. Can fight upper respiratory tract infections

Brewer's yeast may successfully treat the common cold, flu, and other upper respiratory tract infections. Brewer's yeast increases the immune response and prevents future infections.

5. Can treat hay fever

Brewer’s yeast may reduce nasal symptoms associated with seasonal allergies during high pollen counts. It can only eliminate a runny nose and but not watery eyes - both symptoms of hay fever.
