If you thought people couldn't get weird when it came to food, you are wrong.
India is known for its many traditions and superstitions. However, there are so many outlandish food etiquettes around the world that will shock you though you will be glad that you came across this list if you ever visit one of those countries.
1. In Italy, never order a cappuccino after your meal because it hinders digestion which is taken very seriously by Italians. No one will oust you for ordering one, but they will probably brand you as a tourist.
2. In China, don't flip a fish because it is considered to be bad luck. It is the equivalent to a boat capsizing in the ocean. People normally remove the bones completely to reach the other side or eat only one side.
3. In Japan, you should never stick your chopsticks into the rice bowl as this action is reserved only for funerals. Doing this at a table will make things very awkward. Also, don't pass food from chopsticks to chopsticks as bones are passed this way.
4. In Thailand, you aren't supposed to stick the fork into your mouth. The fork is only used to push the food into the spoon.
5. In Korea, you cannot start a meal until the oldest person on the table has tasted the food. Talk about respect for your elders!
6. In Britain and America, there are rigid rules pertaining to tea. Never touch your sides of the cup with the spoon, don't leave your spoon in the cup; instead place it in the saucer, facing the same direction as the cup handle.
7. In Japan, slurp your food as loudly as you can. It is accepted because it shows appreciation for the chef. You may also drink directly from the soup bowl but don't disrespect your chopsticks in any way by licking them, crossing them or sticking them vertically into a bowl of rice.
8. In France, asking to split the bill is considered unsophisticated. Pay for it entirely or someone else will do it.
9. In Chile, touching your food with your hands is considered ill-mannered. Even fries, pizzas and burgers.
10. In Italy, don't ask for extra cheese to put on top of your pizza as they consider it as an insult to the original taste.
11. In Portugal, don't ask for salt and pepper if they haven't already been placed before you as it is considered as an insult to the chef's skills.
12. In China, burp loudly to show the chef appreciation for the food that was served to you. Make sure to leave a bit of food uneaten to convey to them that they have given you enough. The messier the plate, the happier is the chef.
13. In Ethiopia, using single plates is considered offensive. Everyone on the table is supposed to eat from one large plate to avoid wastage of food.
14. In Italy, never ask for extra cheese with your seafood as it is considered to be a culinary disaster.
15. At a traditional feast in Georgia, don't sip your wine as it is not correct to drink until a toast happens. When the toast takes place, down the glass in one go.
16. Never mix or turn down vodka in Russia. Mixing it is seen as a sign of impurity of the drink and turning down a drink is seen as rejecting the friendship and trust of the individual offering.
17. When drinking coffee with the Bedouins, make sure you shake your cup in the end while handing the cup back to them if you are done. Otherwise they'll keep pouring the drink in your cup thinking you haven't had enough.
18. In Tanzania, punctuality is considered as a bad trait. You have to be at least 20 minutes late to appeal to your host.
19. In Korea, never pour a drink on your own. Wait for someone else to fill it for you or ask them to if they don't. Watch out for others at the dinner table too.
