There’s nothing quite like coming home to a hot and hearty meal that reminds you of all the good days of childhood. Some dishes literally work as stress busters and are always there around you when you are feeling low. From chips to chaat and pizza, nothing can beat the comfort that food gives you. But, there are a few downsides of indulging in these comfort foods as they come with a lot of health risks. But, do you still want to indulge in these foods and at the same time wish to avoid unnecessary calories? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Keep the flavours of your comfort food alive but give it a healthy twist by using the following tips:

1. CHIPS

The minute we get stressed, we look for something salty and crunchy. So, instead of stocking up on your favourite nacho chips, keep healthy options like soya chips or nachni chips around you. You can also opt for baked option from your favourite chip brand. This will satisfy that sodium craving but also keep it healthy and oil-free.

2. CHAAT

This is something every Indian will relate to. Chaat is everyone’s go-to when they are PMSing or craving for something hot and spicy. Now, your traditional bhel is made out of puffed rice aka Kurmura. While they are baked, the puffiness can still make you feel bloated. You keep the recipe same but still switch things up by adding sprouts to the mix. Avoid the puffed rice completely if you can and opt for a sprouted chaat. It will provide the right amount of protein while also satisfying those taste buds.

3. PIZZA

A cheesy pizza is the most satisfying and filling thing you can possibly eat when you are feeling low. However, pizza is the most junk you can probably indulge in. So, to cut back on the calories but still satisfy your taste buds, you can opt for a gluten-free crust for your favourite pizza. You can further add veggies to add that extra crunch and switch that cheese to a no-dairy one.

4. ICECREAM

Cold and creamy, ice cream is one of the many things that people grab after a breakup or a tough day at work. However, you can always stock up on no-dairy, fat-free options that are easily available in the market. This will give you the same satisfaction that a normal ice-cream does. You can also add your favourite fruits and berries for that healthy kick.

5. MAC AND CHEESE / PASTA

This is that one thing that is loved around the world. Easy to make, this two-ingredient dish is a classic example of comfort food. Now, to make it healthier you can throw in some of your favourite veggies and switch the classic cheese up with a low-fat, no-dairy option. This is a great way to indulge yet keep a check on those calories.
