Trick or Treat: Easy DIY candies that kids will LOVE
Trick or treat? Treats, please! The sweeter the better!
Halloween is a major hit with kids and no brownie points for figuring out why! Dressing up, going out with friends and feasting on candies is every kid’s fantasy and for a day they get to live it without having to worry about their parent’s disapproval. But, as a parent if you are worried about your kid getting a sugar rush, stomach ache, dental cavities or simply don’t want them consuming so much artificial sugar and colours, here are a few DIY candy recipes that are not just healthy and delicious but also a lot of fun to make!
Pomegranate candies

A super easy recipe to make, you can also get your kids to participate in the activity. All you need is a large pot, pomegranates, gelatin and some sugar. Add the pomegranate juice, sugar and gelatin to a large pot and bring it to boil. Remember to stir so as to not form any clumps. Once the mix comes to boil, pour it in a flat container and refrigerate overnight. The next day, cut the candy into small cubes and dust some sugar on it. Your delicious pomegranate candy is ready!
Almond delights

A super easy and healthy candy to make, almond delights will be loved by kids and adults alike. Soak some almonds for a few hours and peel the skin off it. In a large pot, melt some chocolate and add some sprinkles to this molten chocolate. Lay out the skinned almonds on a tray and pour the chocolate over it. Refrigerate the almonds for a few hours and your delightful almonds are ready for treating!
All fruit brittle

It’s almost impossible to get kids to eat fruits, but watch them lap up the delicious fruit brittles in no time! This recipe will need some preparation since the more dried fruits you have, the better your brittle will taste. If you are in a rush, you can simply buy dried fruits from any supermarket. Scatter these cubes of fruits on a tray and layer them with melted jaggery/chocolate sauce/maple syrup. Freeze this overnight and roughly cut them into cubes the next morning. All fruit brittle is very delicious and super healthy!
Mango candy strips

Mangoes are loved by one and all. Turn these fruits into candies for Halloween! Slice mangoes into thin strips. Lay the strips on a train and let them dry in the sun for a few days. Once the strips are completely dry, dust them with powdered sugar. These candies last for a long time and taste really yum!
