Are you planning to visit New Delhi? It’s always better if you’re prepared before you visit any city. You need to do your research. As they say, “prevention is better than cure”. Better be prepared than be caught off guard. Delhi is a huge city and it’s easy to get lost and without any way out your knowledge and research is the only thing that will come to your rescue. A place as massive as our capital can confuse you. But that doesn’t mean that you cannot explore the city on your own. It’s essential to prepare yourself and stay safe and explore safe. Here are some things that help you stay comfortable and safe during your trip to Delhi.

1. Do not book accommodation until and unless it’s a well-known name in the market or is probably some upstate hotel. Avoid random small hotel’s they’re not the safest or reliable for that matter.

2. Delhi has some of the best restaurants and street food. You do not need to eat food from a high-end restaurant. Explore the streets and look for the right delicacies.

3. It is a crowded city and you’ll run into a lot of traffic. Take the road if you are travelling close distances, but if you are travelling to some far-off place, try and stick to the metro. Delhi has great metro connectivity.

4. The wine shops in Delhi shut by 10 PM. Buy your alcohol or you may not find any shop open till late. The pubs and bars stop serving alcohol by 12:30 AM, though they do stay open till 1:30-2 AM.

5. If you’re a girl and would be travelling alone, keep your family informed about your whereabouts and keep the emergency contacts on speed dial. Always carry pepper spray.

6. Don’t go out clubbing alone. Preferably go out in groups. You do not want to be out alone at night.

7. Delhi has a lot of monuments and heritage sights. Visit them and don’t miss out on its beauty.

8. Avoid drinking normal water. Carry mineral water or buy mineral water to drink.

9. The best time to visit Delhi is during winters; from September to February are the best months to visit.
