Everyone should travel alone at least once in their lifetime. It’s an important learning experience. It’s a part of growing up and being independent.  Solo traveling helps you discover yourself and teaches you to enjoy your own companionship. It teaches you to take risks and explore and enjoy your trip. But that’s not the only thing that’s important. Traveling alone can also be a big risk when it comes to your safety. You could be going to the worlds safest place but, traveling alone may pose a risk to your safety. No place can be a 100% safe and secure and no person can be safe without a backup. We all need someone to have our backs when we travel alone but that’s not always possible so, you need to take some precautions and stay safe. Here’s what you can do to stay safe while traveling alone.

1. Plan

Do your research and know everything about the place you are traveling to. Plan your trip carefully. Take into account all the little details and your safety while planning your trip. Plan and make your bookings such that you don't have to face any troubles alone.

2. Keep people informed

Keep someone from your family or your friend informed of your whereabouts at all times. Ensure that they have contact details of the place you stay at along with the location. Keep them posted with your current location at all times.

3. Don’t get drunk

It’s alright to drink but don’t get sloshed. You do not want to be taken advantage of in a drunk state alone. Don’t make yourself vulnerable to people or a dangerous situation.

4. Avoid late nights

Don’t travel alone late at night. Don’t be out alone in an unknown city alone too late at night. It’s better to avoid getting mugged, kidnapped or stare any other major crime in the face.

5. Avoid giving details

It’s great to meet strangers and locals and make new friends but, be careful and don’t give out too many details about yourself and your plans. They are still someone you don’t know.
