Mahashivratri is a festival where Lord Shiva is worshipped. On this day, devotees show their faith to the god and perform a number of rituals like Abhishek with milk and water and even offer different items to the Lord. They also spend the entire day fasting during which they are allowed to eat satvik food. This food is the purest form which is healthy and very easy to digest. It does not contain onion, garlic and salt.

Here are some easy recipes to you can try, with which you can break your fast.

Sabudana Kheer

Ingredients:

1 litre milk

1 cup sugar

1 spoon elaichi powder

1 spoon ghee

1 cup sabudana

¼ cup cut up almonds

¼ cup rasins

Method:

Soak the sabudana seeds in water for an hour.

Pour the milk in a another pan and add sugar. Stir well till it dissolves. Allow the milk to boil till it becomes half its quantity.

In another pan, add some water and cook the soaked sabudana in it. Once done, drain out the excess water.

Once the milk has become half it quantity add the elaichi powder and cooked sabudana to it. Let it simmer for another 10-15 minutes.

Add the ghee, almonds and rasins in another container and let it heat on the stove.

Mix this into the sabudana kheer and then serve into smaller bowls.

Thandai

Ingredients:

1 litre milk

2 strands saffron

¾ cup sugar

¼ cup cashews

¼ cup pistas

¼ cup almonds

2 spoons cardamom

½ spoon cinnamon

2 spoons saunf (fennel seeds)

10 seeds of black pepper

Method:

Soak almonds in water for 10-15 minutes and peel of the skin.

Add almonds, cashews, pistas cinnamon, saunf, cardamom, black pepper into a blender, add ¼ cup milk and blend the ingredients well to form a fine paste.

In a pan, add milk and saffron and boil.

Add sugar to this and mix well till it melts. Add the spice paste to this and mix well.

Allow it to cool and serve chilled.

Pulao

Ingredients:

1 cup millets

1 spoons ghee

1 spoon cumin seeds

2 cloves

1 cardamom seed

5 cashew nuts

5 almonds

10 rasins

1 green chili

2 cups water

black salt to taste

¼ cup green peas

2 spoon lemon juice

1 spoon corrander

Method:

Soak the millets for 3 hours

Heat ghee in a pan and add cloves, cardamom and cumin seeds

Add cashews, rasins and almonds and fry for 30 seconds

Add water and chopped up green chilli

Drain the rice and add to the pan

Add peas

Cover so it gets cooked

Once cooked, add a few drops of lemon juice and corrander for taste

Serve hot

Badam burfi

Ingredients:

½ cup badam powder

1 cup khova

water

ghee

sugar

Method:

In a pan, add some water and khova and leave it to simmer till khova dissolves

Add the ghee, sugar, cardamom and stir till the mixture get thick and even

Grease a plate with ghee or butter and pour mixture into the plate. Make sure it is even

After the mixture hardens, cut into squares or rectangular shapes and garnish it with chopped up almonds and then serve
