The happy festival is here!! Ganapati Bappa is on its way to our homes and we are so excited. Mumbai, especially is lit up, the pandals are all ready and everyone is eagerly waiting for Bappa’s arrival. All of Gannu’s fans have started their preparation even back at their home to welcome their favourite God. This 10 day festival is celebrated with a lot of joy amongst people from all walks of life. Special varieties of dishes, prasads are cooked for our special guest. Modak is one such dish which is a mandate when it comes to Ganesh Chaturthi. He is also known Modakpriya because that’s how much he loves this sweet dish. As per rituals, 21 modaks are offered to him and are then served to his devotees as prasad.

Modaks are Indian dumplings which are a treat to one’s taste buds. This lip-smacking sweet dish is traditionally made out of rice flour, wheat flour or maida and have fillings which include grated coconut and jaggery. With our cute little modaks going global, now we have a lot of different types of modaks. Some of the popular ones are ukadiche, malai, coconut rose, chocolate, fried, paneer and sugar free modaks to name a few.

Modakam

One of the most famous places to have modaks. This place is especially known for its ukadiche modak. Modakam is located right outside the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai and is 45 years old.

Panshikar

This shop dates back to 1921 and is largely famous amongst Maharashtrian houses. The most famous modak here is the saffron milk modak. Their speciality still remains that they stick to the traditional modaks but also sell fruity variations of the same.
