Diwali is the festival of lights and colours. Everyone is in their happiest and most buzzing moods. This joyful festival gives rise to a lot of preparations too. From food to decor to dressing up to the most important - food, Diwali is all about spreading smiles. Food as we all know is an integral part of this festival. We all remember how our grandmothers and mothers would prepare all the famous delicacies. In today’s listicle we’ll be talking about the best traditional dishes prepared during this happy festival.    

Barfi 

No Indian festival can ever be complete without mithai! Barfi has to be the most loved sweets for almost every India. Kaju barfi in specific is extremely popular. Besan ki barfi, khoya barfi, malai barfi are the popular ones during this festive season. 

Chiwda

This munchie is again an extremely popular dish. It is very addictive and tastes super delicious. This one is easy to prepare and oozes out taste. Poha chiwda is made with flattened rice, fried peanuts, raisins, curry leaves, turmeric powder, salt and sugar according to taste. 

Shankarpali 

Shakar pali or shankarpali comes next on our list. This sweet and savoury snack is great to munch on. The main ingredient of this snack is flour to which either sweet or savoury spices are added. Although you get this all round the year, it is super fun to eat this especially during Diwali. 

Chakli 

Now who doesn’t love crispy, deep fried, drool-worthy chaklis? Spicy chaklis is like a must have with mild and spicy chivda with some kaju katli barfi. All you have to do is knead the rice flour add some black pepper, sesame seeds, dry mango powder and some salt to it. Roll the dough in the form chaklis and deep fry them. 

Gujia

Diwali is always going to be incomplete without gujias. This sweet and savory food item is a traditional speciality and every home has their own variation of this recipe. Mawa gujia one which is extremely popular and also very delicious. Made out of dough, gujias are deep fried and pampers your taste buds.
