You must have noticed a surge of bugs as the weather is changing. While most bug bites are harmless and calm down after a time, some can cause complications. When a bug bites us, we do not experience any rashes or swelling until some time later. This often aggravates to itching, soreness and even pus secretion. A lot of bugs, such as mosquitoes, carry infections which may also give rise to life threatening diseases such as dengue or malaria. If a bug bite results into  hives, difficulty in breathing, or a swollen throat, you should consult a doctor immediately. Sprays, creams and ointments can help, but you can also treat these annoying bug bites with items that are easily available at your home!

Ice

Crushed ice can reduce inflammation. The cold also numbs the skin which provide immediate relief from redness and itching. Use a cold pack over a bug bite for this method.

Honey

Honey is rich in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also moisturises your skin and keeps it from feeling dry and itchy.

Basil

Crushed basil leaves work wonders on a bug bite. The chemical compound called eugenol present in basil helps relieve itchy skin.

Onion

Onion juices are capable in soothing the bite’s sting and irritation. Onions also have a natural antifungal property that reduces the risk for an infection.

Garlic

Mix freshly minced garlic with coconut oil and apply the mix on the bite. This will calm the bit as garlic has natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Thyme

Thyme will ease the discomfort of a bug bite. Thyme has antibacterial and antifungal properties, which can reduce irritation and risks for an infection.

Lemon

Lemon contains tannin, which is a natural astringent. Along with that lemon also contains polyphenols. These natural compounds ease inflammation, speed up healing, and reduce the risk for an infection.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera gel has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce inflammation, provide relief from itching and help heal minor wounds or calm infections.
