Hair loss, also known as alopecia or baldness is one of the common issues that many people, especially men face across the world. However, one should know that we all shed hair strands on a daily basis and it's natural. As per the American Academy of Dermatologists, it's normal to lose around 50 to 100 strands of hair per day. If you are losing more than the same is a severe case.
There are several causes of severe hair loss. Illness, emotional trauma, protein deprivation, hormonal changes, pregnancy, puberty, and menopause, thyroid disease and anemia among others are the factors leading to the same. Many people after suffering from the same experience that their scalp is being easily seen as the new hair are growing at the same speed at which the hair loss is happening. And that's when people get confused with hair loss and hair thinning.
In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Dr. Amit Karkhanis, Laser and Cosmetic Physician and Founder of Dr Tvacha, revealed the difference between Hair Fall and Hair Thinning. He said, "Normally, we tend to lose hair on an everyday basis. Medically speaking, a person witnesses hair fall on a daily basis and a new set of hair takes its place. It becomes more challenging when the hair fall occurs rapidly as compared to the number of follicles growing in its place. When this happens, it can eventually lead to hair thinning. This situation can also occur due to various medical conditions like thyroid, anaemia, deficient diet and other genetic factors.
"To prevent hair loss at the most primary level, it is ideal for one to have a balanced diet. Most of us also tend to include certain supplements in our daily meal plan which might help in the long run to prevent this damage."
