Getting onto the bandwagon of cruelty free luxury brands, Burberry joins the likes of vegan brand Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Gucci, Versace, Tom Ford, Furla, Givenchy and others. The Business of Fashion reports and interview with CEO Marco Gobetti, the British luxury house will refrain from use of rabbit, fox, mink, Asiatic raccoon fur and angora wool. Though not swearing off leather just yet, the brand has taken a huge step forward. This might be a new step for these luxury houses but brands like Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood had sworn off animal cruelty years ago.

The ban on fur will be seen into action immediately at London Fashion Week’s fashion show with new creative director Riccardo Tisci’s first collection. Not only is the British fashion house taking a huge leap in going fur-free, it’s also vowing to stop burning all unsold goods. If you’re unclear of this practise, here’s the link to that article that explains it all! To summarise, June was a month when Burberry’s practise of destroying $36.8 million worthy of unsold goods came into light. The CEO Marco Gobetti says

"We think that modern luxury that doesn't take into account the social and environmental responsibility really has no meaning. Now customers are not happy if you don't care about the environment they live in,"

We’re delighted to see the fashion industry moving to a phase that cares.

Comment below and show some love to Burberry for their revolutionary step forward!
