Variety declares BTS' Map Of The Soul 7 as 2020's Biggest album in the world; IFPI confirms

BTS have done it again! It isn't even a surprise anymore, but the South Korean superstar septet keep making and breaking records every day. The legendary septet has added another feather to their cap of achievements by becoming the first Korean act to top IFPI’s newly-launched Global Album All Format Chart, as declared by Variety. Honestly, at this point, only lyrics from Suga's Interlude: Shadow, can sum up this historic and iconic achievement. "I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine."

The American publication Variety published that the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (more commonly known as the IFPI) has confirmed that BTS' February 2020, magnum-opus album, Map Of The Soul:7 earns No. 1 on the ranking after breaking the all-time sales record in Korea, topping charts in the world’s five largest music markets (United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, France), and more. BTS are also making history, as the first Korean act to top IFPI’s newly-launched Global Album All Format Chart! Their November 2020 album, BE: Deluxe Edition ranked at number 4 on the same list. Previously, BTS was crowned the year 2020's 'Global Recording Artist of the Year' and Dynamite was revealed to be the 10th biggest global single last year, adding more accolades to their illustrious hat of success.

For the uninitiated, IFPI is the organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. Every year, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (known as the IFPI) ranks artists and their releases across three charts: the Global Artist Chart, the Singles Chart, and the Album Chart. Each chart tallies ups physical sales, digital sales, and streams across the world to determine which artist or group saw the most success in the calendar year.

Congratulations to BTS!
