Space Sweepers: Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri's space movie to zoom past theatres and directly land on OTT?
Owing to the numerous delayed release dates, there are reports doing the rounds that Song Joong Ki's upcoming movie Space Sweepers could skip the line at the box office and release on an OTT platform.
The wait for Space Sweepers is just getting longer. The South Korean movie, starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri in the lead, was set to hit the cinemas this year. While the dates were fixed and the movie almost made it to the cinemas, the producers were forced to push the movie owing to the resurgence of COVID-19 in Korea. Now, reports are doing the rounds claiming that Korea's first space movie could skip the theatres and land on the OTT platform.
Korean news outlet News1 has reported that the makers are considering releasing the film on Netflix. Via ZAPZEE, the international publication quoted that the distributors have discussed converting the theatrical release into a Netflix original. A member from Merry Christmas, the distributor of Space Sweepers, informed the news agency, “Space Sweepers is considering various release methods, including Netflix release, but nothing has been confirmed.”

As for the film, Space Sweepers sees a group of junk collectors in the space on crew ship called The Victory. During one of their outer space expeditions, they come across a child and bring him in only to realise that it is a bomb disguised as a child. Will they sell the bomb to make a few big bucks or will they refrain from fuelling the outer space violence? We'll have to wait and watch.
