Tollywood actor Mohan Babu recently hit the headlines as he joined the YSR Congress Party. Now, a week after, the actor is in the news again but this time, over controversial reasons. According to reports, M Mohan Babu has been convicted in a 2010 cheque bounce case. As per a report in Bangalore Mirror, Mohan Babu has been given one-year imprisonment and has been asked to pay Rs 41.75 lakh as the default amount. The decision was announced today by a court at Errum Manzil in Hyderabad.
Talking about the case, in 2009, Mohan Babu had issued a cheque for Rs 40.50 lakh to Chowdary as a payment of film, Saleem. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds. Later, the actor failed to return the amount which resulted in the opposite party to take legal action. Meanwhile, the court has granted bail to the actor on the production of two sureties. The actor has been given 30 days time to appeal in the highest court. In a statement to Mirror, lawyer Sai Baba said, “Mohan Babu filed two contradictory replies before the court The court believed Chowdary’s version and passed the orders today."

Speaking at the press conference about his allegiance to YSRCP, Mohan Babu said, "Jagan will do good for the Telugu people, he will definitely become the CM”. A YSRC leader revealed about the speculation earlier, "Though Mohan Babu cannot get any post right now, he may be nominated to the Rajya Sabha if YSRC comes to power in this election. TD founder N.T. Rama Rao nominated Mohan Babu to Rajya Sabha in the 90s. He, however, wasn't nominated again after the end of term by the TD government and that is why he holds a grudge against the present TD chief”.
