Sandalwood Drug Scandal: Supreme Court grants bail to Ragini Dwivedi after hearing through video conferencing

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to Kannada actress Ragini Dwivedi in the case of Sandalwood drug scandal. The hearing was conducted through video conferencing and Ragini’s lawyer said that though the three others accused were granted bail, Ragini was still under the custody. Referring to various other case laws, he said that bail could be granted to her. It should be noted that Sanjjannaa Galrani, who was also arrested along with Ragini, was granted bail on December 11 on the grounds of ill health.

Before this, her parents and lawyers had applied for her to be out on bail twice, only to be rejected both the times. While the first plea was rejected by the Sessions Court, the second was denied by the Karnataka High Court after which the bail petition was filed in the Supreme Court. Her earlier bail pleas were denied as it was stated that the case was still under investigation and that the release of the actress could give her a chance to tamper with the possible evidence.

Before being sent to the Agrahara prison, Ragini was in the custody of CCB officials for about eleven days. She made the headlines after she reportedly submitted a tampered urine sample to the medical staff during the dope test by mixing water in her urine. During her CCB custody, she was interrogated and answered several questions which lasted for many days.
