Sandalwood Drug Scandal: After a couple of rejections, no improvement in Ragini Dwivedi's bail pleas
The Supreme Court had earlier issued a notice seeking a response from Karnataka Government for the bail plea filed by the actress.
In September 2020, South actress and entrepreneur Ragini Dwivedi was arrested by the Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru, for her alleged role in a drug racket that involved several celebrities from the Karnataka film industry. Since then, she has been in judicial custody. Her parents and lawyers have applied for her to be out on bail, only to be rejected twice. While the first plea was rejected by the Sessions Court, the second was denied by the Karnataka High Court.
It is to be remembered here that both the bail pleas were denied as it was stated that the case was still under investigation and that the release of the actress could give her a chance to tamper with the possible evidence. However, Sanjjannaa Galrani, who was also arrested along with Ragini, was granted bail on grounds of ill health. While she was in judicial custody, she complained of severe back pain and she was taken to the prison hospital for treatments.

It is to be noted that the Supreme Court had earlier issued a notice seeking a response from Karnataka Government for the bail plea filed by the actress. In her petition to the Supreme Court, Ragini had mentioned that she has been spending time in jail for more than 90 days even though there is no authentic proof and that her bail petitions are getting rejected.
