The notable Tamil filmmaker J Mahendran left us for the heavenly abode today in a private hospital in Chennai at the age of 79. The veteran director was reportedly in a sensitive condition after a dialysis session and passed away today, leaving the entire industry remorseful with grief. Reportedly, his remains will be kept for the public homage at his Chennai residence. He is now survived by his wife Jasmine and children Anurita, Dimple and John. Many notable celebrities from the South film industry expressed their heartfelt condolences on the unfortunate demise of the Mullum Malarum director.

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss wrote as, "It is deeply saddening to hear the demise of one of the pioneer filmmaker #Mahendran sir. You and your films live forever in our hearts sir. Rest in peace". The visionary filmmaker had directed notable films like Kaali, Nenjathai Killadhe, Johnny, Uthiripookkal. The filmmaker also proved his acting prowess when he essayed the role of the main antagonist in director Atlee's film Theri. Mahendran was recently seen in the films like Petta, Atharvaa Murali and Seethakaathi.

Notable music director Ghibran tweeted as, "I'm deeply saddened and disturbed by the demise of our veteran director #Mahendran Sir. A very humane personality and one of the finest director of our times. #RIPMahendran". A fan wrote as, "When cinema was getting all flashy and unemotional, it was #Mahendran who brought in that special charm through his thoughtful stories and memorable characters".
