Ram Gopal Varma’s biopic on NT Rama Rao in trouble, Andhra Pradesh High Court stays release until April 3

Film-maker Ram Gopal Varma always manages to be in the news for his films and yet again, in the latest development, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has stayed the release of Ram Gopal Varma’s biopic on NT Rama Rao. That’s right! On Thursday, Andhra Pradesh High Court stayed the release of Lakshmi’s NTR, a politically controversial film directed by film-maker Ram Gopal Varma.  

For all those who don’t know, the biopic on legendary actor and Telugu Desam Party founder late NT Rama Rao was initially scheduled to release on March 29, 2019; however, as per latest reports, the film’s release has been delayed until April 3. In the wake of the Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections in Andhra Pradesh that will be over by April 11, the High Court was dealing with a petition seeking stay on the release of the film. As a matter of fact, the producer of the film has been asked to screen the film in the judge’s chamber at 4 PM on April 3 and after watching the film is when the court will deliver any decision. During the screening of the film, the court has demanded that producers Rakesh Reddy and Deepthi Balaigri should be present at the screening.

Lakshmi’s NTR is a film that is based on the circumstances towards the end of NTR’s life and is narrated from the perspective of Lakshmi Parvathi. The film features Vijay Kumar as NTR, Yagna Shetty as Lakshmi Parvathi and Shritej as CBN.
