It won’t be wrong to say that this year has been extremely terrible as far as Bollywood movies are concerned. The industry hasn’t witnessed such a lull in the recent times and the excruciatingly disastrous collections have only been disappointing.

While a few movies did manage to surpass decent collection figures, superstars failed to live up to their screen image. The ratio of the flop movies against hit movies is around 70:30.

In fact, on the contrary, it was small budget movies with impressive storytelling that managed to be the saviors, which is obviously a good sign. However, big-budget movies are the ones which actually help churn the machines of the industry and when that fails, it hurts the most.

From Salman Khan’s Tubelight to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal and Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos, all big budget starring superstars failed to leave an impression on the domestic market.

Here are the 10 biggest flops of 2017:

1. Tubelight: Tubelight starring Salman Khan released earlier this year in June. The movie saw Salman playing a man-child, which was completely opposite of his screen image which hurt the film the most. Given that his fans hate to see Bhai cry onscreen, Tubelight despite crawling its way into the INR 100 crore club failed to recover the production figures, making it one of the biggest flops of this year.

2. Jab Harry Met Sejal: Imtiaz Ali’s most commercial film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma released amidst much hype. However, the poor storyline did not go down well with the audience who failed to appear at the box office.

3. Rangoon: Rangoon starring Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut released earlier this week. The Vishal Bharadwaj directorial received mixed response with the majority giving it a negative review. The movie despite being exquisitely shot and all the controversies failed to lure audiences to the theatres.

4. Jagga Jasoos: After much delay, Jagga Jasoos starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif finally released this year. The musical received a lot of good reviews from the audiences but sadly wasn’t enough for audiences to turn up to the theatres. The movie’s biggest selling point was Kat and Ranbir came together for the first time post their infamous breakup but that did little good to the movie.

5. Raabta: Raabta starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon proved to be one of the biggest duds this year. The movie based on the overused plot of reincarnation did not strike the right chord with the audiences. Deepika Padukone’s special appearance in the movie did not spin the luck in their favour either.

6. A Gentleman: A Gentleman saw Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez come together for the first time. The movie based on the loose plot of mistaken identity failed to earn at the box office.

7. Bhoomi: Sanjay Dutt’s comeback movie Bhoomi released amidst huge hype but the sloppy track of the movie failed to impress the audiences. The movie was made on a small budget but despite that, it couldn’t recover its production cost leave aside profits.

8. Simran: Kangana Ranaut went all out and about promoting Simran. The film garnered immense publicity- thanks to all the controversy around the writing credits. However, we wished it could have done some good to the movie which barely earned anything.

9. Haseena Parkar: Haseena Parkar starring Shraddha Kapoor released in the second half of the year. The movie is based on the life of Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena. However, that wasn’t enough for the movie to enjoy a good run at the box office.

10. Meri Pyaari Bindu: Meri Pyaari Bindu starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra failed majorly due to the aftermath of Baahubali: The Conclusion’s release. The movie despite being good became the victim of the mammoth that of Baahubali.
