Twinkle Khanna's tweet proves that Mumbai is still not an open-defecation free city.
Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha highlighted one of the major issues in the country - Open Defecation. The film has been doing well at the box office and has tried to make an impact - but as you say it was just a step ahead not the final solution.
Yesterday, Twinkle Khanna took to Twitter to share a picture of a man defecating on a city beach. She captioned the image as, "Good morning and I guess here is the first scene of Toilet Ek Prem Katha part 2." In another tweet, she said, "Exactly! The public toilet is a 7-8 minute walk from this particular spot."
Twinkle Khanna's tweet proves that Mumbai is still not an open-defecation free city. Mumbai got re-validated as an open-defecation free city (ODF) by the quality Council of India (QCI), a Union government affiliated agency, on July 6 - which is last month. And a month later, we have Twinkle sharing this picture.
On these lines, post Twinkle's tweet, a civic official, who requested anonymity told a leading news agency, "In our mass campaign, the civic body figured out the open defecation spots across the city and then installed toilets there. But what can we do, if people do not use toilets and indulge in such acts."
Earlier, talking about the issue of open defecation, Akshay said, "Kids are the ones who are most affected due to open defecation as they are so vulnerable to diseases. Through my movie, I am urging each Indian household to build toilets to keep their children healthy and happy," while adding that "I am glad to join Shiva who has himself been a behavioural change agent and kids' favourite whiz kid to spread my message and together drive change."
What do you have to say about it?
