WWE SmackDown Results: Daniel Bryan DEFEATS Jey Uso in epic Steel Cage Match; To face Roman Reigns at Fastlane

While we're 99.9% sure that we're getting Roman Reigns vs. Edge for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 37, there's a roadblock in the name of WWE Fastlane to jump through first. Daniel Bryan was determined as ever when he gave a fiery promo as WWE SmackDown's opening segment about how he's always had to fight tooth and nail for opportunities in WWE rather than it being handed over to him. The 39-year-old wrestler also noted how Wrestlemania 37 could be his last time main eventing The Show of Shows.

"I should be in the main event of Wrestlemania. Not Edge. Not Roman Reigns. Me," Bryan passionately bellowed. In his counter promo, Roman stated that Daniel was confusing the WWE Universe with his views as he feels The Leader of the Yes! Movement is "not ambitious" like The Tribal Chief. "I love wrestling. You don't love this. You need it," Reigns pointed out and added, "I love this business. I don't need it. I do it because everybody needs me. SmackDown needs me. The roster needs me. The crew needs me. You need me." Roman further stated how Daniel has to acknowledge him as The Head of the Table if he lost his match later in the night.

Last week, on SmackDown, Daniel had lost the Universal Championship opportunity as his match against Uso ended in a double count-out which led to a post-match beatdown, courtesy of the champ. Jey tried to go for another sneak attack on his main event opponent this week but was swiftly sent flying out of the ring, courtesy of Bryan. In another green room segment, Roman talked down Jey by stating, "If you lose, you not only embarrass yourself, you embarrass our family. Don't embarrass our family." While Bryan let Uso know backstage that he meant business, the Steel Cage Match was every bit brutal as one would expect from the two powerhouse wrestlers. Roman and Paul Heyman watched the match closely from the sidelines as the former kept barking at his cousin to punish Daniel.

While Jey kept targetting Bryan's face and body onto the ruthless steel cage, Daniel kept targetting his opponent's left arm. At one point, Bryan and Uso were on top of the cage and the top rope as they indulged in a series of kicks. In the closing few moments, Daniel hit Jey with the butterfly suplex from the top turnbuckle and dialled things up by a 100 with his Yes! Lock which forced Uso to tap out. Roman definitely did not hide his disappointment at his cousin's loss.

With his victory on SmackDown, Daniel sealed his ticket for a Universal Championship Match against Roman at Fastlane:
