Winter is coming! With less than two weeks to go for the premiere of the last season of the cult series Game of Thrones, the fans just can’t control their excitement. HBO has been dropping short duration teasers and snippets which have increased the curiosity of the viewers even more. The final season will premiere on April 14, this year. With so many deaths and names to remember, fans tend to forget the initial seasons. Therefore, here is a recap of the very first season of Game of Thrones.
Season 1 starts in the seven kingdoms of Westeros as the summer is about to end and winter is coming. Lord Eddard Stark is offered to be the Hand of the King, by his friend King Robert Baratheon, post the death of Ned's mentor Jon Arryn. Eddard agrees to his offer, in order to find out the truth about Arryn's murder. In Essos, the children of House Targaryen are planning to defeat Robert and claim their rightful throne. To accomplish the same, Viserys Targaryen arranges the marriage of his sister Daenerys to Khal Drogo, who is the leader of 40,000 Dothraki warriors, in exchange for the use of his warriors in attacking Westeros.
Lastly, on the northern-most border of the Seven Kingdoms, the soldiers of the Night's watch guard the wall, which is a 300-mile-long build-up of ice which has stood for many years. The Watch defends the Wall against the lawless wildlings who live beyond, but a new danger is rising there. The season consists of many ups and downs and a big shock of a main character's death at the end.
