Based on the backdrop of World War II, director Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon is a saga of love, war and deceit.

The film stars Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles. But do you know Saif was the first person to discuss the film's subject with Vishal?

A source shared with us exclusively that Rangoon's inception took place during the filming of Omkara (2006) which starred Saif in the role of Langda Tyagi. Back then, Vishal had mentioned an idea to Saif of creating something around the life of Fearless Nadia. Chote nawab liked the idea and had a few discussions about it with Vishal during Omkara's shoot.

As the film was based in the 1940s' era, it needed a lot of research as no proper information was available about the subject. When Vishal decided to roll Rangoon, Saif was Vishal's first choice as according to the filmmaker, he was perfect for the film.

Rangoon will see Saif in the role of a filmmaker who is in love with Julia (Kangana). Shahid is playing the soldier named Nawab Malik who falls in love with Julia during a train journey.

Rangoon is produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and will release on February 24.
