Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Akira is an emotional thriller set in Mumbai and Rajasthan. The film marks Murugadoss' third Hindi venture after back-to-back hits Ghajini and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty. Sonakshi will be seen in a new avatar in the film.

The actor has undergone rigourous training to get into the skin of the character. The film highlights a strong social message and it focuses on the safety of women. Sonakshi plays the role of a misunderstood girl, who is forced to fight back when she is pushed to the wall. In a candid interview with us, Sonakshi opened on why she chose Akira as she'll be stepping into the genre of action for the first time.

The Dabangg actor said, "Well, the fact that it's A.R. Murugadoss' film, the fact that he is the director who works with top action stars of the country. And it's a woman-centric film and he has put that kind of faith in me that he wants me to portray such a role. I am the hero of his film so that was the reason and of course the film has a fantastic story. It has great content and that's why I wanted to be a part of this film."

Akira is the Hindi remake of the 2011 Tamil hit Mounaguru, and stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Anurag Kashyap and Shatrughan Sinha in lead roles. The film is slated to release on September 2, 2016.

It'll be interesting to see Sonakshi in this new avatar! We are eager to see her doing some hardcore action scenes on the big screen!
