"The costumes designed in Mirzya are timeless," says Designer Niharika Khan
Niharika Bhasin Khan, the costume designer of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Fan is happy that she got an opportunity to work with the superstar for the first time. In the past, she has designed for many big movies like Rock On, Band Baaja Baaraat, Delhi Belly, Fitoor and Heroine etc. Her upcoming projects are Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mirzya and Ajay Devgn's directorialShivaay.
Mirzya is the contemporized version of the tragic love story - Mirza and Sahiba. So, we can get to see very different costumes for the lead actors in the film. When Niharika was asked about it, she excitedly said, "In Mirzya, there are two parts, one contemporary version, and other folklore. As folklore is an imaginary portion, I have designed for that sequence. I am super excited for it, it is timeless and very different from anything that I have put my mind together to do."
Director of the film Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is a filmmaker who is particular about the minutest details in the film. Niharika was asked whether there was any briefing done before the shoot, she revealed, "Oh my god! Rakeysh and I went in round and round in circles, like all of us to get a perfect point where we wanted to reach. When you do a contemporary film, I find it more difficult to figure out the style and what's going, how will it translate when the film comes out. For a period film, you have all the references behind and you just have to creatively put it together in the cinema. But, when you are creating it from scratch and with some imagination, that's the point we get to know how we create it. So, it was really exciting."
Mirzya marks the debut of Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher and is all set to be released on October 7, 2016.
