Sridevi with Boney, Jhanvi & Khushi at People magazine cover launch.
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, Bollywood superstar Sridevi got candid about her decision to quit films in favour of motherhood, her special relationship with her daughters and her triumphant return to the silver screen with the surprise hit English Vinglish.
“I’ve been working since the age of four. I wanted to experience family life,” explains the star in the interview, about why she gave up a movie career.
When she agreed to finally return with English Vinglish, the journey felt new to her, thanks to the presence of her daughters by her side. “All I was worried about was if the kids wanted to see me in glamorous clothes. But when they saw English Vinglish, they forgot everything,” she admits. The actress’s younger daughter Khushi chimes in, “When we were at the supermarket one day, a lady started thanking mum, saying how the film has changed her life as she couldn’t speak good English.”
Off-screen, the actress reveals that she is like any other mum, enjoying shopping and watching movies with her children. “I can’t stay away from them for long,” she says.
