Press furious with Ash-Abhi
Just about a month has passed after the Big Bollywood Wedding of Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan and interesting responses are beginning to hit media space as a result of the equations spawned by the event.
Anil Thakraney, the acerbic columnist of Mumbai Mirror, wrings his hands with angst when he writes in his column about "how right through the prolonged marriage ceremony, the entire Bachchan clan treated the journos waiting outside Prateeksha like a bunch of beggars and lepers. Not even a casual wave of the hand was sent out to recognize their presence…When the camera guys were not being beaten up by Amar Singh's commandos…they were being dished out wafers and Pepsi as Khairaat. The B family behaved as if we idiots didn't even exist."
Thakraney further cries out: "After the disgusting humiliation, one would expect the media to pay back the family in the same coin and ignore them when they need publicity."
However, contrary to his anguish, television channels, he says, ran helter-skelter to get silly sound bytes from Aishwarya Bachchan in Cannes and boasted that 'she had spoken to them first'!
"All that I heard Ash utter were two words – holiday and L'Oreal," says Thakraney, "Not even once did Ash use the word honeymoon. Hope the missus is having a good time!"
Thakraney rues the present celebrity-driven times in which "journos can and will be used and abused like lap dogs, and we have no choice."
