Deepika Padukone to star in Krrish sequel
Priyanka Chopra may command the fattest paycheck amongst Bollywood leading ladies today but her performance in Krrish (2006) was almost embarrassing. Not surprisingly Priyanka has been replaced by newcomer Deepika in the planned Krrish sequel.
The decision is surprising because Deepika has yet to make her Bollywood debut. It also breaks a pattern because both Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish did not feature newcomers.
While Deepika is yet to be seen in a Bollywood film she is not new to show biz, having appeared in commercials and starred in the Kannada film Aishwharya. Besides, she is set for a dream Bollywood debut later this year opposite the biggest star, Shah Rukh Khan, in the years biggest film Om Shanti Om
On completion of Om Shanti Om Deepika will move on to the sets of Siddharth Anand's next for Yash Raj Films, opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
She has also been signed up opposite Akshay Kumar in Rohan Sippy's next. To be directed and co-produced by Nikhil Advani, the film features Akshay as a martial arts expert and is very different from the type of films Akshay has been doing lately.
Clearly, if Deepika is good enough for SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment and Yash Raj Films then the 21-year-old is probably good enough for Rakesh Roshan's Filmkraft.
"It is confirmed that Deepika Padukone has been finalized for Krrish's sequel opposite Hrithik. Though the Roshans are still working on their script, it's decided that the film will be shot extensively in foreign locations," as source told the Mumbai Mirror.
Deepika, however, is non committal.
"I haven't received confirmation from the Roshans yet," she says
