Dahi Handi is one of the most joyous festivals celebrated in India. This two-day festival marks the birth of Lord Krishna (first day) and it is called Janmashtami. After the Janmashtami that was celebrated on September 2, 2018, people in Maharashtra will now celebrate Dahi Handi. It will be celebrated today, i.e. September 3 from morning to the evening. Talking about Dahi Handi, a group of men, who are called Govindas build a long pyramid and break the handi (earthen pot) that has makhan (butter) in it. Makhan is Lord Krishna's favourite dish and hence, the purpose is to break the pot and get all the makhan as that's what Krishna used to do as a kid.
