EXCLUSIVE: Will Salman Khan's Tubelight beat Dangal and Baahubali 2's box-office records? Here's what the trade experts have to say
Trade experts reveal their predictions of whether Tubelight will break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's box-office records.
Baahubali 2 and Dangal created an uproar at the box-office with massive numbers at both domestic as well as worldwide collections.
This Friday, Salman Khan is back with Kabir Khan's Tubelight and given Khan's impressive box-office numbers for his previous few films, comparisons have already started. Will Tubelight break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's record!?
We spoke to some trade experts to know their predictions:
Akshaye Rathi (Film Exhibitor): Will Tubelight break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's record? "Baahubali 2 is a once in a few decades kind of phenomena. I don't think Baahubali 2's record can be touched because the kind of business it did down south, I don't see a Tubelight doing that. And even in Hindi, the kind of hype, hysteria, madness and run it had, it will take an extremely special film to match up to Baahubali 2. But I certainly think, if the film has a great story and it's been sustained well, which we hope it should, then it certainly can challenge the numbers of Dangal, it has the potential," he said.
Atul Mohan (Trade Analyst): Will Tubelight break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's record? "I really doubt it will beat Baahubali 2's record but Dangal is quite possible because Aamir Khan's movie released during the demonetization days. Tubelight is being promoted as one of the best emotional films of Salman Khan. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was not a typical Salman Khan movie and it was more of an emotional story. The combination of Salman and Kabir Khan has led to a new Salman who can break records by not doing things like the actor taking his shirt off and action sequences. They might be playing with that discovery. If the emotional connect is as strong as we saw in Dangal, I don't see a reason why it won't surpass Dangal's record. But it all depends on how the content is received by the audience. Tubelight has as wide a release as Dangal. Dangal had the state of keeping the same ticket price for the entire week which made a difference of INR 50 crores to the nett box-office. Tubelight is going to adopt the same," he said.
Bharati S Pradhan (Film Critic): Will Tubelight break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's record? "The 100-crore club for the movie should not be difficult but a lot would depend on whether it is going to break any records. It will definitely not go ahead of Baahubali 2 and Dangal," she said.
Girish Johar (Film Trade and Business Analyst): Will Tubelight break Baahubali 2 and Dangal's record? "It's too early to say. Both the movies have taken a longer time and they had a more gestation period and eventually, they grew on people. If the film has good content, then why not?"
