Kangana Ranaut's film Simran and Farhan Akhtar's Lucknow Central released on September 15 and both are high profile actors. It's a neck and neck fight between Kangana and Farhan at the ticket windows. While Simran is about a Gujarati NRI Praful Patel who is a kleptomaniac, Lucknow Central is about an aspiring Bhojpuri singer who is in jail.

Kangana's film continues to take a lead and has earned INR 9.48 crore at the box office. On Day 3, the film minted INR 3.65 crore at the ticket windows. "It is a character that Kangana is playing (a robber). And this character is lovable. And even if she is doing any crime, you feel concerned for her. It is a human story and crime is never justified. There should be redemption towards the end. It is a journey and crime is just a part of the journey," the director Hansal Mehta had said in an interview with a leading agency.

Farhan Akhtar's film released in 800 screens and earned INR 1.75 crore on its Day 1. On Day 2, the film saw a growth of 50 percent and minted INR 2.65 crore at the ticket windows. In total, the film has collected INR 7.39 crore in its first weekend.

Talking about the early estimates, Akshaye Rathi had told Pinkvilla, "Both Simran and Lucknow Central will not open big at the box office. The collections will be between Rs 2-2.5 crore on the opening day for Simran as well as Lucknow Central. Both films have been made with a limited budget and will rely on word of mouth to grow their box office collections."
