Rajkummar Rao's Newton which released on the same day as Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar has raced ahead of the other two movies at the box office.
On 22nd September, three films hit the screens - Newton, Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar. It started off with Rajkummar Rao's Newton being on the third slot with INR 85 lacs on the Day 1 and now, tables have turned as the first weekend box office figures reveal that the film is leading the pack. Newton has earned INR 6.90 crore at the box office in its first weekend. While Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi has minted INR 6.71 crore in three days of its release, Haseena Parkar has collected INR 4.22 crore.
Bhoomi stars Sanjay Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. The film is a revenge drama which explores the relationship between a father and a daughter. Sanjay Dutt had earlier stated, “Bhoomi has been an incredible journey. It has been great to face the cameras after a while. Feels great to be back and Bhoomi is a film that you definitely appreciate.”
Haseena Parkar, which stars Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor, is based on Dawood Ibrahim's sister. At the trailer launch of Haseena Parkar, Shraddha had said, "It's difficult for me to express my experience in words for Haseena Parkar. This has been a very exciting and challenging role for me. To play a role of such a strong person... for this true story, it has been a very emotionally challenging experience. When I heard the story and the script of the film, at first I was scared of the challenge. But it was Haseena's story and everything that happened in her life... made me so interested in the film. To be able to play such a real-life strong character was huge. I loved the story, I loved the script. If my director thinks I can do it, then I have to trust him. That's how I took this role."
Coming to Newton, the film stars the National-award winning actor Rajkummar Rao. The film has been appreciated by both the audience and the critics. The film revolves around a government clerk who tries to conduct fair voting on an election day amid the fear of guerrilla attacks and apathy of security forces. Newton has been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars. We got in touch with Rajkummar who was super excited about the reaction the audience has been giving to his film. While confirming the report, he told us, "It's India's official entry to the Oscars. It's true. I am elated and super thrilled that we made this film with so much love and passion. I am so glad that people are appreciating that effort and are recognizing the sincerity of a non-theatre film."
