How long has it been that after seeing a film, you were left in a state of bewilderment as to what to feel? Well! If you like earnest and endearing tales that are high on cinema, then you might experience something similar after watching Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan (Fly Away Solo).

There are two parallel plots. And how they ultimately intersect is beautiful. On one hand we have Devi’s tale which is brash and barefaced reality of India; on the other we have Deepak’s woebegone love story. Both the plots are melancholic but the ending rekindles hope.

In terms of acting, every acclaim that comes their way is totally worth it. Richa Chadha, Sanjai Mishra, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi have delivered brilliant performances.

The connect with the film is instant! But where you connect with it, is totally dependent on you. You might find it relatable while witnessing innocent love or death of a loved one or other subtleties the film has to offer in terms of varied emotions. The film touches you in so many ways. At emotional highs, the film will surely move you.

The film’s music is something you will take away with you out of the theatres. Be it “Tu kisi rail si” or “Mann Kasturi re” or “Bhor”, for lovers of good music these melodies are heartfelt.

In terms of direction, Neeraj in his debut venture has done a great job. His way of seeing things is laudable and the film is put together well. He found a ground between austerity and gentility, and Masaan has shaped up elegantly.

This Indo-French co-produced film is one that will be cherished by cinema-lovers for sure! “Sangam do baar aana chahiye... ek bar akele aur ek bar kisi ke saath”.
